Razor Shark (Push Gaming): Overview
Known to deliver superior visuals, unique mechanics, and monstrous volatility, speculation surrounding new Push Gaming slots are rife with fans eager to see what's in store. The wait can be a long one, however. While competitors are churning out games on a monthly basis, it took Push Gaming until May to launch its first title of the year, The Shadow Order. The long delivery time can partly be explained by the comparably small size of the studio as well as its quality over quantity approach, though it's the exclusive deal with the Kindred Group that has contributed to an extended wait time for non Unibet customers according to our sources.
In Push Gaming's latest release, you get to swim with sharks, which is a suiting metaphor for its violent nature. The game itself is actually quite familiar, but the volatility here has been cranked up to around 11, and the potential is higher than in any other Push Gaming slot to date, by far. Utilizing 5 reels, 4 rows and 20 paylines, Razor Shark benefits from Mystery Stacks that can reveal either matching symbols or Golden Shark symbols which, in turn, can reward bet multiplier coins or scatter symbols. The highlight is the Free Games feature where the combination of Mystery Stacks and a win multiplier can result in wins of up to 50,000 times your stake. Using your desktop computer or mobile device as a virtual submarine, you can immerse yourself in this deep sea experience from 10 cents to 100€ per spin.
As always, when it comes to Push Gaming, the production quality is phenomenal. One of the first things you're likely to notice is the tremendously catchy tune, an intoxicating instrumental that, not only adds tension and excitement to the gameplay, but will make you nod your head to the rhythm. With cartoon style graphics, Razor Shark is set in the ocean where you'll see corals and colourful fish in the background as well as a couple of Nemo and Dory lookalikes spectating the reels. Symbols include lower-value diving tanks, swim fins, diving masks and underwater cameras. More rewarding are the four sharks that are blue, green, purple and orange in colour. The latter is the most lucrative, giving you 25 times your stake for 5 on a full payline. The Great White shark is the wild and substitutes for all symbols bar the scatter. It's also the most valuable of all symbols, giving you 50 times your stake for 5 of a kind.
Razor Shark (Push Gaming): Features
Central to the game is the Mystery Stacks feature. On any spin, seaweed symbols in stacks of four can land anywhere on the reels. When they do, the Nudge & Reveal feature comes into play. Similar to the stack Nudging Wilds feature in Tiki Tumble, the Mystery Stack symbols will move down one position on each subsequent spin (which are free of charge) while they also open up to reveal either matching symbols or golden shark symbols.
If the Mystery Stacks feature reveals golden shark symbols, the Razor Reveal feature is activated. Once triggered, each golden shark symbol position will reveal either bet multiplier coins, which have a range of values between 1x and 2500x, or scatter symbols.
Finally, there is the Free Games feature which comes into play when either 3 or more scatter symbols land anywhere on the reels in the main game or during the Razor Reveal feature (each extra scatter rewards one additional spin). Once in, the second and fourth reels are filled with Mystery Stacks that will move down one position on each spin until they fall out of view, in which case the feature ends. Additional Mystery Stacks may also appear to extend the feature. Moreover, there's also a win multiplier that will increase by 1x on each nudge of the Mystery Stacks. It's a powerful combination that can result in enormous wins of up to 50,000 times your stake - at least that's what Push Gaming though. Much to everyone's surprise, in October 2020 the max win was massively exceeded when a Swedish player landed a 85,000 times the stake win while playing at Unibet.
Razor Shark (Push Gaming): Verdict
Razor Shark is a slot in which Push Gaming raises the bar in an apparent attempt to outdo themselves in every way possible, although mostly through increased volatility and potential. Beware, this game is exceptionally volatile and will not appeal to all tastes. Unwitting players baited by Razor Shark's cute appearance might very well be in for a shock, either as a result of a potentially life-changing win or, more much more likely, an utterly flat-lined session.
As mentioned earlier in the review, there are some fundamental similarities to Tiki Tumble, which, in a sense, make Razor Shark feel more like a sequel rather than an entirely unique offering. It's not necessarily a bad thing, but having been spoiled with one original release after another, it was undoubtedly a bit surprising.
Push Gaming are masters of the high variance niche and know very well how to build such games. The features are well thought out, the game beautifully designed, and with "mini" jackpots to keep you on your toes in the main game, along with enormous potential in the free spins game, Razor Shark is like a mouthwatering serving of fresh seafood for all of us who are into high volatility.
Don't Miss...
The sequel, Razor Returns, was released in July, 2023. It comes with a max win potential of 100,000x and volatility cranked up even higher.
Superb
Rich with Push Gaming personality, Razor Shark boils down to visceral gameplay, creamy visuals and a huge dose of volatility not for the faint-hearted.
